This tutorial begins with the basics of conducting teleclasses, followed - in upcoming posts - by ways you can earn income using teleclasses as a teaching tool and info product.
You've probably also heard the words "teleseminar" and "teleconference" to describe the same thing - a teleclass. A teleclass is a seminar or educational class that's delivered over a telephone conference line to a group of people who are interested in the topic you're presenting.
So the "tele" is related to the telephone, and not to anything you'd see on a television or computer screen. Low-tech and easy.
You don't need to be a professional speaker or teacher to conduct a teleclass, but you do need to have expertise in the topic you'll be presenting. People generally attend teleclasses to learn something new.
Even if you don't consider yourself a teacher, here are 6 reasons why teleclasses might be a good option for you:
1. Teleclasses can be a source of income for business owners... and for teachers in many different fields.
2. Teleclasses can be recorded and the recording later sold as a separate product on your website. Also, for people living in different time zones... or for those with schedule conflicts, the recordings mean they can still get your teleclass content. You send an audio link to everyone who registers for your teleclasses for just that reason. For paid classes, this is automatically expected nowadays.
3. You can teach a teleclass from anywhere in the world that has phone service, even when you're traveling. So teleclasses are easy from a technical standpoint. You dial a phone number... and you're on.
4. You can use free teleclasses in a number of ways. For example, (a) you can point people to your newsletter sign up page, (b) you can inform people of other products and services you offer, (c) you can demonstrate your expertise to make people comfortable hiring your other services, and (d) you can generate buzz for yourself. Ali Brown, the former Ezine Queen, got over 6,000 registrants for her final free teleclass on email marketing. The buzz around the event became more important than the event itself. And it gave her a big launchpad for her new business.
5. Some people are better speakers than writers, so a teleclass relieves the pressure of having to create written info products.
6. You can also use teleclasses to build customer loyalty, especially if you're giving people information they really want and need.
Here's a tool I found useful for teleclass how-to information: Bob Bly's e-book "Teleconference Profits."
